Good Endings

How people leave your organisation is not just a procedural matter for HR. It's a cultural choice.

Whose choice the ending is, and how it is handled, are themes that cut across all types of departure. From succession planning to exit processes, from retirement to resignation; from saying goodbye to long term service users, to Trustees standing down.

It's not only staff who leave: volunteers and service users will also experience how it feels to leave your organisation. And while redundancy can feel like the most emotionally charged ending, it is not the only one that deserves consideration at a governance level.

This workshop will help your team diagnose your organisation's current approach to endings and explore whether a different approach, consistent with your values, is needed.

We will explore:

  • what your organisation's current approach to endings actually is, and whether it reflects your values or simply your habits

  • the different types of endings your organisation navigates, what they have in common and where they diverge

  • whose choice each ending is, and how that shapes the experience for everyone involved

  • what the people who remain take from an ending, and why that matters as much as the ending itself

  • the specific changes, if any, you want to make going forward

You will leave with a written diagnostic of where your organisation currently stands based on the workshop discussion, and a clear set of actions for how you want endings to be approached in future.

Workshop structure: Three hours with two short breaks; online or in person depending on availability and convenience for all attendees.

Who should attend: Recommend a good mix e.g. CEO or equivalent senior decision-makers, at least one Trustee or Board member, at least one staff member with management responsibility, and at least one representative from non-management staff. Depending on your size and circumstances, we can discuss what works for your organisation.

Pilot offer: £550

In exchange, I ask for honest feedback on the session and its outputs, which will inform the development of the programme. Organisations taking part in the pilot get early access at a reduced rate and direct input into shaping what Good Endings becomes.
